Actually, Apeture is Apple's answer to lightroom. We were working on lightroom first, and apple even stole one of our engineers. FYI!

Our beta beat the heck out of their for sale buggy crud too.

Well, not so much stole as hired away. Just as I'm Adobe hired away many of its employees from other companies (unless everyone came straight out of college).

Don't get me wrong, I love Adobe and many of its wonderful products, but as a longtime veteran of the computer industry I know every big company has done their fair share of corporate crap. Adobe's been guilty of rushing products to market on more than a few occasions, and to me what the delay in releasing universal binaries for their product line are deplorable. Unlike most Mac developers, Adobe has been writing code for the Intel architecture for over a decade. While it is more complex than simply slapping the wintel version together for the Mac OS, it should not require more than a year to do, nor be something that's going to be a mandatory upgrade costing users hundreds of dollars. What it seems like to me is that in an age of fewer ground-breaking features with each major release of a mature piece of software (which leads in diminished upgrade sales), Adobe is holding compatibility hostage by requiring an upgrade purchase for all its loyal users.

I think it's kind of funny - as of Monday, Adobe is the only major developer whose products are not designed to run on ANY current shipping Mac.
